Services and Policies
 

The Library has two levels in Building L. The Circulation Department, Checkout Desk, reserves, textbook loaning, the "Main" collection, copiers, newspapers and periodicals as well as study carrels and reading areas are all located on the lower level (1.5). The upper level (2.5) has reference librarians, reference materials and a computer lab with black and white and color printing, copying and scanning.

Bookdrop
 

The bookdrop is located in the counter top of the Circulation Desk, just to the left of the checkout computer.

Circulating Books
 

A total of 10 items may be checked out for a three-week loan period, with one renewal.

Circulation Desk
 

Materials checked out through the Circulation Desk include: circulating books, reserve materials, magazines, newspapers and DVDs. Users must present one of the following for material checkout:

  • Current student or staff ID card from any of the DCCCD Colleges
  • Current driver's license
  • Temporary paper license with photo ID
  • State ID card
  • US Passport
  • TexShare card with photo ID
  • DCCCD retiree ID card
Computers
 

There are 51 computers for student and patron use on Level 2.5.

Copiers With Scanner
 

Copiers are located on both levels of the library in Rooms L203 and L350. You can also scan to your flash drive

Headphones
 

Headphones are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk. Please show an ID.

Holds
 

Two types of holds are available:

  • As a courtesy for a patron who has forgotten an ID, up to 10 books may be held for a 24-hour period at the Circulation Desk.
  • For currently checked out items, students may place a hold on up to five books by clicking "request" on the Library Catalog web page.

Inter-college Loans
 

Circulating books located at other DCCCD campuses may also be borrowed. A student can order these by using the "request" button on the item screen in the Library Catalog.

Magazines and Newspapers
 

All magazines and newspapers are for use on the Circulation level only, please. Current issue of newspapers and magazines are on display for browsing. All back issues are available from the Circulation Desk. To request, please:

  • Present a completed Magazine Request Form available at the desk
  • A maximum of five items may be borrowed at one time
Overdues
 

Fines are not charged when materials become overdue, however, a patron is automatically blocked from checking out additional materials until overdue items have been returned. This "block" on the student's record affects registration, as well as transcript requests. Please return all items by due dates.

Printers
 

Black and white/color printers are located in the Reference area on Level 2.5, by the computers.

Reference Desk
 

The librarian on duty can help you with research questions, the pay-for-print system, software, bibliography questions and more.

Renewals
 

Books may be renewed (one time) if a book has no current "holds," meaning it is not reserved for another person and if the student or patron is not blocked for overdue items. Renewals can be done in person at the Circulation Desk or by clicking on Sign In (top right corner) on the Library Catalog.

Reserve Materials
 

You may check out one item at a time with a photo ID. Two types of reserve materials are available for use in the library:

  • Materials placed on reserve by instructors are located at the Circulation Desk.
  • Books on permanent reserve are shelved by call number in the main collection.
Restrooms
 

Restrooms are available on Level 1 and Level 3 outside the library proper. Both are ADA accessible.

Study Carrels/Rooms
 

Quiet, individual study areas can be found in Rooms L206 and L207. Study carrels are on level 1.5 circulation. Group study can be found on Level 1, Level 3, on Level 2.5 and in Room L376 (when available).

Supplies
 

A stapler, three-hole punch and electric pencil sharpener are located at the west end of the Circulation Desk level 1.5 and on the Reference, level 2.5.

VCR and DVD Players
 

Students may view videos on Level 1.5. DVDs can also be viewed on the computers on Level 2.5.
